About FIDE

The roles of directors in financial institutions have become increasingly challenging in today's operating environment. Bank Negara Malaysia and the Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia (PIDM) recognises that the well being of an institution hinges on the stewardship at the top. Against this backdrop, focus group discussions were held with existing directors of financial institutions to obtain insights on prevalent issues in the boardroom that may affect their effectiveness as a member of the Board and areas that they wish to further enhance.

A Steering Committee consisting of members from the industry, Bank Negara Malaysia, the Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia and the International Centre for Leadership in Finance was established to provide the strategic direction on the development of a high quality programme to meet demands of the industry. The FIDE programme was designed to promote high impact boards with practical insights, based on real-world experiences, taking into account the critical ingredients in today's environment to achieve effective governance in financial institutions.

This programme is further envisioned to contribute towards the establishment of an independent directors' pool which will serve as a resource for financial institutions seeking to appoint qualified members to their Boards.
